Blenman and Russell headline a Strong field to Sevilla

by carifinman · 0 comments

Blenman of Guardian Group and Russell of RBC will headline a strong field to CariFin Games cross country this weekend.

Cross-countryChallengerSome of the best runners within the financial services sector would be heading out on Sunday June 08, 2014 to the 23rd Edition of the CariFin Games cross country race which will be staged at Sevilla Golf course, Couva. This race would feature CariFin Chancellor Challenge winner Rashad Blenman and Susan Russell another top female competitor in CariFin and RBC who have always featured in CariFin and RBC running events. After a 3 year hiatus she is back in the fray once again to find herself in a position to register possibly her very 1st win in the culminating event of the CariFin Games (a 4 event running series).

Blenman and Russell are quite familiar with the famous Sevilla golf course with its undulating terrain. Blenman placed 3rd last year in the 3 laps for men. When asked for a comment, he said he has nothing to say at this time, “But check me after the race.”

Rusell has always been a force to be reckoned with in the 2 lap female version, as she has been a very dedicated and consistent performer. Since she is returning after a 3 year break, Russell hopes to use this race as a confident booster for next year as she indicated that, “ Between now and then, I will be an eager student, learning how to improve my technique, and hopefully, better prepared to present them with a challenge for 2015.”

Both Blenman and Rusell were both very competitive in the warm-up athletic events of the Urban Challenge taking top 3 positions from time to time. This year, Donaldson placed 3rd in the 1 Lap Savannah, 4th in the Green Mile and 2nd in the Chancellor Challenge. Russell was 3rd in the 1 Lap, 2nd in the Green Mile and Chancellor Challenge.

Donaldson had this to say, “I can’t relax in this race, I will have to open it up and put some space between my self and the other runners, when I look back I must not see them. It would be nice to get 1 more cross country.”

Lee Hay of CITI is the current female leader of the series having 3 points from the 3 events she participated in which she won all three. Unfortunately, Hay would miss Sunday’s encounter, as she would be on vacation out of the country. In her absence Susan Russell has the chance to have her name etched on the Female Challenge trophy for the 1st time we hope she is brave and confident enough to run the kind of race to propel her to that position. Also out of this mix is the 2 times winner of this event for 2012 and 2013 Wendy D’arbasie of Central Bank who had the opportunity to making it 3 wins in a row and getting into the arena of super special performers in CariFin. Unfortunately for her she too would miss this ‘every athlete dream in CariFin opportunity’ to take and to have that individual challenge trophy. In their absence other runners would move up to fill that space.
The expected movers, based on the Chancellor performances are Simone Balkissoon and Danielle Cazabon of SAGICOR also Kirchell Samuel of Guardian Group who did times of 20.17, 20.51 and 20.58 respectively
The men to pay attention to in this most exciting match up for the men cross country are 2nd place finisher on the Chancellor Hill – John Donaldson and Rashad Blenman who was only able to win this race by over taking Donaldson almost to the top. Donaldson has the accolade behind his name as being the 2011 winner of the cross country.

Also in the game this year is the 1 lap Savannah winner Jedidiah Benjamin of RBC who out kicked Blenman to win this race.
The Green Mile was won by Nathan Patterson of Guardian Group who outkicked Jedidiah Benjamin of RBC to win. Each of the 3 male events had different winners.
Jean Marc Deboulet of Sagicor is one runner that has showed improvement over the 3 preceding running events. He placed 5th in the 1 Lap Savannah but stormed back for 3rd place in the Green Mile and Chancellor Challenge. “Come Sunday I am going to be very strategic, the first 2 laps I will maintain composure and relaxation over the course, watch the other competitors and see how they stand up to the terrain and then tighten my stride on the last round and execute on my plan to get my best performance at Sevilla.”

One of the things about the Urban Challenge or the 3-preceding events held before the cross country race is that it sorts out the best of the lot in an organic way so you have an idea of the competition and this makes things a whole lot more interesting and exciting.
