CARIFIN TORCH RELAY RECORDS HIGH TURNOUT SETS STAGE FOR SUPER 25TH ANNIVERSARY 2016 GAMES
Attendees Express Satisfaction With The Organization Of The Event And Team Leaders Felt It Was A Sign Of Great Things To Come In The Games
Port of Spain, Wednesday, April 06, 2016. Over 450 employees of the financial services sector were buzzing with excitement after they participated in the 25th Anniversary of the CariFin Games Torch Relay on Saturday April 02, 2016. The leaders and representatives of the 10 participating institutions met at the Central Bank Plaza, corner Independence Square and St. Vincent Street for pre – Torch Relay activities which included group photos with the various heads of the representing institutions holding the torch and demonstrating their support and commitment to the Game’s philosophy of “Fun, Fitness and Friendship.” After a brief address by the Governor of Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Alvin Hilaire, Team Central Bank led by Governor Hilaire together with the other financial leaders officially started the journey of the Torch along Independence Square South.
“This was certainly one of the better Torch runs, flat, short, little sun and a lot of camaraderie among the financial institutions!” beamed Hazel Tywang-Maharaj, Branch Manager, RBC Royal Bank (Trinidad & Tobago) Limited, Tropical Plaza, Pointe a Pierre. She went on to add, “Great way to start the Games, wonderful team spirit and lots of fun!!” This was the general feeling held by all of the teams present. The Central Bank Governor handed over the torch to JMMB Group Managing Director and CEO Ag Devati Mooleedhar, at their hand over point located on the corner of Wrightson Rd. and Independence South, with receptive excitement as they continued the fun taking the Torch along the course.
First timer to the games Mr. Kashta Ome, Group Human Resources Advisor – Industrial Relations from Ansa McAL Limited had this to say about his first taste of CariFin Games, “I’m glad we were invited to be part of the experience!”
Unit Trust Corporation carried the torch along the way for the 3rd leg and had this to say, “The run was nice man!”; and even made this recommendation, “My colleagues enjoyed it but were wondering if CariFin would consider some soca music to make the run even more fun?”
The Governor of the Central Bank, when interviewed by CNC3, summed up the whole experience perfectly, “It’s all good, good health, good fun and good camaraderie!”
The activities culminated at First Citizens, Queens Park East building around the Queen’s Park Savannah with refreshments served by our host and participants taking the opportunity to take photos against the 25th CariFin Anniversary Banner.
CariFin Games was founded in 1991 and are an excellent way for persons in the Financial Services sector to demonstrate their camaraderie and commitment to health and fitness.
