The aerobics competition has always been that show piece of the Urban Challenge as well as it should be, because that is what it is. With close to or over 100 participants in a close captured area and representing their particular institution with pride and passion. Some are there to make their mark, take on the best of the financial services sector; some are there to show what they have learnt from last year and how they have improved. Some definitely have winning on there mind. Some are just there for their team and to have fun, because this is CariFin and CariFin stands for – Fun, Fitness and Friendship.
In my minds eye I can see and remember some of the great competitions we have had on the Plaza, some of the very good exponents of the art of aerobics. This particular competition was not introduced or conceptualized to go the route of a specialist aerobics workout. This, however, was not the evolutionary path it would take. It was influenced by the popular aerobics movement at the time, aerobics being a more organized entity, having a high level of popularity. Being very pleasing to the eyes and the added glitz, glamour and media attention, it gravitated more to an heavily flavoured aerobics event.
Be that as it may today’s aerobics burnout would not be short of excitement, captivating fun, great movements and a climax that would have you no doubt riveted to center stage focussing on the two or three people left standing to see who will be the Champions of 2011.
