Mc Leish makes it two in a row!
Amarali chucks up one!
It wasn’t any surprise to the CariFin fans that Nikosi Mc Leish of RBTT Bank would win the CariFin (Caribbean Financial Institutions) Green Mile but it was just a matter of what time he would return for the distance.
Mumtaz Amarali of Republic Bank notched her first win in the CariFin running event, using her experience and running skills, she held off the approaching competition and a strong oncoming head wind to cross the finish line in first place for the first time in a running event.
The Green Mile was the second event of the CariFin Games 2010 – Urban Challenge held at the inside of the Sand Track of the Queen’s Park Savannah. Over 300 participants of the financial services sector made up of walkers and runners set out around the circular one mile course.
Mc Leish wasted no time to stamp his authority on the event and made his way to the front very early and the traditional early challenges expected in this version of the race never materialized making it a no competition situation on the day. The clock was the only competition and doing a sub 5 minute run on the course was his coach’s dream which he did fulfill. He made it in an astonishing 4.57 minutes..
In the over 6 years that Mumtaz Amarali of Republic Bank Limited has participated in CariFin Games, this was her best performance in the event. In 2008, she placed 6th in 7.51 and in 2009 she finished 3rd in 7.22. After knocking on the door it has finally opened as she won the one Lap Sand Track – The Green Mile in 7.18. Amarali has previously won the aerobics event and the overall Urban Challenge in CariFin.
Among the men, Ian Gibbs of GHL made no mistakes and sealed up second place in 5.47, Mark Thomas and John Donaldson of Republic Bank Limited and Grace Kennedy respectively returned the same time of 5.48.
Last week’s winner in the women’s category, Esla Anthony of CBTT occupied the 2nd spot in a time of 7.20 just 2 seconds off first place. Debutante Salisha Julien of RBTT Bank, filled the 3rd spot in 7.21, Angel Barkley of Republic Bank finished 4th and Candice Rollock in 5th place
