The participants in the 10th edition of the MS CariFin (Caribbean Financial Institutions) gave a scintillating and electrifying performance on Sunday May 26, 2013 at Sevilla Golf Course, Couva. The show which began around 6.30 pm brought down the curtains on the final day of events of the CariFin Games. The contest was successful at capturing and showcasing not only the physical fitness of the participants but focused on the coordination, physique, poise, intelligence, confidence and charm of the participants. The contestants participated and were judged in many events on the day including the cross-country event.
The show this year proved to be better-rounded as most of the six contestants had strong aerobics or dance backgrounds, adding to the overall quality of the show. There was an air of anticipation and excitement in the show this year which saw a higher level of performance among the girls.
The routines were in sync with music, as they were led by Instructor Neil Diaz of Fitness Center Limited. The objective of this part of the competition was not just to keep up aerobically with the instructor but to closely mimic the timing and quality of his moves as the rhythm and music changed.
At the end of the 10 minutes routine Ms. GHL was a standout, “I found that they did very well, once they had coordination it was easy. Ms. GHL seemed to be enjoying herself very much and that gave her an upper hand.” – Neil Diaz
“I felt elated that I was able to keep the title for GHL and surpass the high standard we have always set.” Team GHL has won this Ms. CariFin Title twice in a row. “I want to thank my team captain Kavita, my team members, supporters and trainers.”
As the show entered the question and answer section, tension flowed high, since this proved to be the deciding factor. In the end Ms. GHL prevailed, winning not only the hearts of the Sevilla crowd but also on the judges’ score sheet.
All six participants seemed to enjoy the occasion as well as the experience: “At first I was surprised and then I felt very elated and satisfied,” said Verna St. Bernard – Ms. Scotia 1st runner up in the competition.
