One of the things that is going to happen in CariFin as a matter of the format change is the removal of the Urban Challenge block from the first 3 running event.
Developing over say like the last 5 to 6 year there seems to be a big disconnect. This disconnect comes about because a lot of the participants or most of the participants see quite satisfied to end their CariFin Games experience after the 3 running event. The name Urban Challenge and having some hefty hampers and trophy seem to contribute to it. Actually the Urban Challenge came out of the 4 part series. The Aerobics was dropped and the 3 running urban events stood along and many people felt quite comfortable to end it there and don’t participate in the finale at CariFin.
Only CariFin games.
Hence this year we are having just the CariFin Games. We would have a leader board to show the performances over the 4 events of those who take part in all 4 events to cater prizes for them.
We must remember there is no Urban Challenge this year, we have moved away from that format. So please be informed.

I somewhat agree that persons who opted to take part in all four stages must be judged accordingly. I strongly believe that having a three part series that caters for runners only (strong runners) or walkers is a disadvantage to the less fortunate. By all means who else can out run or walk a champion except there is an event that is not their pet peeve.

Comments all noted.  However, the aerobics was left out five years ago to facilitate the “hardcore” runners with ‘two left foots’ as we call it.  Including an event such as a cross country trail run/walk as a mandatory at this late stage is extremly unfair to the non “hard-core” runners and is definetly not the solution to increasing participants.  Maybe you can look at removing the ‘hefty hampers and trophy” and replace with participation medals at all events, thereby making everyone feel appreciated, maintining prizes for the top runners.    This also gives them something to start a collection with, even if they bring in the rare of the race.

  • I hear what you say E. Scott and another way at looking at it…….. I have  heard similar comments and it make some sense. I must say I would give it some consideration…. Some! 🙂
