Carifin Green Mile

Repeat Performers excite at CariFin Games Green Mile!

O’Neal, Russell and Henry repeated their number one performances, Jade Camps and Harrikissoon cross the finish line together in the same time.

Port of Spain, Tuesday, may 05, 2015.  The excitement and drama in CariFin Games continued with the Green Mile on Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the inside of the Sand Track in the Queen’s Park Savannah.

RyanO'NielCariFin fans and onlookers were in high anticipation and excitement for the start of the CariFin Games – Green Mile on Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the inside of the Sand Track in the Queen’s Park Savannah. This is the 2nd event in the 8-event card. A little after 5 pm when the horn was sounded to send off the runners, all eyes were peeled to the perimeter of the grounds to see who the leaders were. Last week’s 1 lap Savannah 3rd place finisher Jedidiah Benjamin of RBC was in the lead follow by three (3) Guardian Group runners lead by Ryan O’Neil with John Donaldson of First Citizens following. This trend continued until the back straight about 300 meters away from the finish line when Ryan O’Neil asserted himself, and lead the onslaught to the finish line completing the 1 mile trip in 5.33. A proud O’Neil said after the race, “My win is not an individual one but a team effort.” Jedidiah Benjamin who commanded the early lead maintained that position to finish in 5.54. “I felt better running the Green Mile, I changed my pace and I came 2nd maybe for Chancellor I could come in 1st.”
Bringing in the 3rd place is another Guardian Group runner – Cubison Thorne in 6.01.

“Winning the Green Mile was unexpected.  The terrain and the strong winds make it a moresusan_russel challenging than the 1-lap event, so it feels pretty good to come out at the front. My time could have been better, and this was another great learning experience,”  said. Susan Russell of RBC Bank felt a little disappointed with her 7.03 win, but the experience was awesome. This is 2 out of 4 wins for her, as she maintains the leads and hope to have the lowest aggregate points over the 4 events which will ensure another year she is the top female athlete in the CariFin Games. Adona Joseph of Sagicor filled the 2nd spot for yet another event in 7.19. And 3rd place goes to Jilleta Landeau of Guardian doing well for herself in 7.23.

The first 2 walkers had the same time on the clock (9.28) but eventually Jade Camps of Guardian Group was awarded 1st place with last week’s winner and winner for the last 3 years Deodath Harrikissoon of First Citizens got 2nd place. Clem Jubrasingh of RBC Bank finished strong in 9.36 for 3rd spot.

AliyaRepublic Bank – Aliya Marissa-Henry another repeat performer clinching 1st place in 11.0. had this to say, “Winning the Green Mile was indeed a test of endurance as a shorter distance meant a quicker pace, not to mention the blanket of dust that was hurled at us by the relentless wind. All in all, the mission was accomplished.”

Roxanne James-Young followed home in 2nd place with 11.44 on the clock, followed for 3rd was Tessa Weeks of Republic Bank in 11.46.

The next event is the Chancellor Challenge, which takes place on Wednesday May 06, 2015 starting at the bottom of Chancellor and finishing at the top.

Ryan O’Neil of Guardian Group, winner of the last 2 events remarked, “The next event is not easy but I am looking forward to doing well again for Team Guardian. Let’s go Life Guardians!”

 Next event, Wednesday May 06, 2015 will be the CariFin Chancellor Challenge on Lady Chancellor Hill.

Kalechstein, D’arbasie and Harrikissoon maintain top spots;

April 26, 2013

Kalechstein, D’arbasie and Harrikissoon maintain top spots; Marcia Pierre jumps in and spoils the party for the Female Walkers. The overcast conditions of the evening in no way over shadowed or dampened the excitement and electricity that the CariFin Green Mile at the Sand Track of the Queen’s Park Savannah generated. Five (5) minutes and […]
