CariFin Cross Country 2018

Sevilla Golf Course

Endurance is the objective, as we journey to Sevilla on May 20th for CariFin’s 27th annual Cross Country 2018.

There are no time outs, no rest benches and laps to complete. Like champions we trek over the scenic route of Sevilla’s natural beauty.  Experience the nostalgia of a rich history with her sharp turns, undulating slopes and the neighboring Brechin Castle Sugar Factory. Remember support goes a long way so bring out your posse to edge you on to the finish.

We look forward to seeing you at the finish line.

The Build Up

After completing the three prelim-heats – One Lap Savannah, Green Mile, Chancellor Challenge, successful male and female competitors are qualified entrants to the Cross Country event.  Best overall runner goes to first place male and female competitors.

The Route

Female competitors will make two (2)5.3 kilometers, while their male counterparts will make three (3) 7.5 kilometer laps around the lush green Sevilla Golf Course.  Remember, you can only claim your fame if you are in the top ten (10).

Your Claim

All finishers will receive medals.  The top 10 winners will receive cash prizes.  The overall winner receives a challenge trophy and replica of the Challenge Trophy.

Cross Country Walk –  Walk

This is a 1 Lap race around the 2.2 km course.  All finishers will receive medals, cash prizes for the top 5 male and female and the overall winners male and female receives a trophy.

Note: Walkers are reminded it’s a “Walking Race”; anyone caught running will be disqualified.

Fun Run

The fun run is an event open to family and friends, as well as the beginner status runners – meaning, that their mile pace would be between 9–10 minutes. That person would finish a 5K in 28–30 minutes

All finishers will receive medals while the overall and age group winners receive hampers for places 1st – 3rd.

We’ve added another exciting feature to promote all teams and build comradery whilst having maximum fun and sharing epic memories. Just for you we have introduced “We Did It” -:

IMG_4844My participation in CariFin dates back almost (6) years, but CariFin 2014 continues to be a “new” experience. It’s new because I am now “learning how to run”, having joined the TT Road Runners a few months ago. For the first (3) races in 2014, I tried to apply basic running techniques, and the results have been great…although I did not win any of those events, I made my best times across all my years in CariFin.

As such, my focus for Sevilla will be less about the competition, and more about learning how I execute on a course like this – it is so different and much more challenging than the first (3). I expect that only after running on Sunday, will I have a better understanding of how “I should have run”.

While there were some new faces among the female competitors for 2014, we missed the game changers (Wendy D’Arbasie and Esla Anthony) – we look forward to seeing them in 2015. Between now and then, I will be an eager student, learning how to improve my technique, and hopefully, better prepared to present them with a challenge for 2015.

 Latest News

In the latest CariFin news, things are set to come to a head this Sunday May 26, 2013, as CariFin Games will make its final stop at Sevilla Golf Course in Couva for the cross country race. The action is expected to heat up as still unbeaten Simon Kalechstein of RBC will be aiming for his 1st claim of the coveted cross country title. Kalechstein seem set to have a battle of epic proportions if he is to win the Cross Country title at Sevilla Golf Course with the return of Nikosi Mc Leish.
This will not be easy though, as other top contenders in search of points towards the overall winners of the series title, have already signaled their intentions to put forward their best efforts.

In what is perhaps the showcase event on the final day of the CariFin games, the Cross Country will see the return of Nikosi Mc Leish also of RBC after a 2 years hiatus due to injuries. It is a positive Mc Leish who returns to the games with the promise; “We are going down Sevilla with running confidence as never before!”

Kaleschstein who has already won the 3 previous running events is certain to become champion of the series.KalechsteinCC

Other major developments in the walking event have caused CariFin Fans to wonder: Can D’arbasie and Harikissoon make it 2 in a row? Can Cadogan surprise all and capture the female cross country walk title?

In the lady’s events Wendy D’arbasie of CBTT continues with her goals of achieving the fe

male cross country title for a 2nd year and maintaining her unbeaten status during the games. D’arbasie asserts, “I would be putting my best foot forward, it is not an easy race, but with the present competition I expect to win.”

Another milestone awaits Harikissoon on Sunday at Sevilla in the walking event as he tries to take two titles in a row as well as continue with his unblemished performance. “I am ready and I feel good about retaining the male walking title.”

Cherylin Cadogan won 2 of the 3 previous running events and that included the Chancellor Hill so it is expected this weekend’s event at Sevilla golf course should be of little challenge to her with the present competition. One major concern though continues to be the Jamaican competitors who have won this event for the past two years. Current Champion of the event Paulette Thompson has already signaled she would not be returning to defend her title. She has been replaced by another strong contender Catherine Stewart.

As yet another successful year of competition winds down best wishes go out to all competitors and the hope is that Sunday’s event is biggest and best ever.
