The 20th Edition of the CariFin Games culminates on Sunday May 29, 2011 with a Cross Country and Family Fun Day at Sevilla Golf Course at Couva and promises to be an explosion of Fun, Fitness and Friendship. CariFin Games have been promoting health, fitness and camaraderie among the financial institutions of the Caribbean for the last 20 years. The theme for this year’s Family Day is an Xplosion of Fun, Fitness and Friendship.
The fuse that started this year Xplosion had been lit from the Torch Run on March 26, 2011 and it has been travelling through the Urban Challenge, the Cricket, Football and All Fours and it is now about to climax into an explosion of Fun, Fitness and Friendship.
The action would ignite from 9 am with novelty events designed for the adult members of the participating institutions and can make you fall off your seat laughing, with events like Drunkard’s passing the ball and Penalty shoot out.
A kid’s park would be running simultaneously as we are hosting the children from the Convalescent Home Diego Martin and St. Mary Home – Tacarigua
This day’s children’s programme will have the children all excited and animated with activity from the Cole Cole kids and other things designed to keep active kids running and jumping all day long.
By 1.30 p.m. the official opening will require participating institutions to interpret their team’s song through any associated moves or movements from their chosen representative 5, lined up in front of their tent led by their Ms. CariFin rep with the rest of the members under the tent. This is part of judging of the Best Tent competition and a rebranding of an old competition called “The team with the most spirit” with a new one called “Are U Fan Enough?”. Thus we hope to cause an explosion of ideas, creativity, excitement and movement.
After the official opening at 2.30 pm we head straight into the cross country events. The kid’s race head’s off first with the 7 and under doing a short run down to the bridge, turning and going back to the finish line. The 8 – 19 years old have a full lap of the golf course to do. Then we have the walking race, followed by the one lap Fun run. Then comes the explosion of speed, stamina and strength and we settle for 2011 who are the fittest and fastest individuals in the financial services sector.
The women’s race is shaping up to be the most exciting ever with the Central Bank trio of Esla Anthony, Wendy D’arbasie and ChelseaAnn Phillip who had dominated the Urban Challenge hoping to take all the precious metals back to the Central Bank for safekeeping. That is not an easy task. Early indicators are that two- time champion Crystal Ann Awia of GHL, though nursing a slight hamstring injury, will run for the fun and fitness. With Awai running she might just spoil the CBTT party. Another spoiler to the CBTT trio fete would be Salisha Julien of RBTT. Though holding her cards close to her chest she might be another runner to watch to take the female title in 2011.
On the men’s side four- time male winner Nikosi Mc Leish may or may not face the starter because of a recurring injury that has been plaguing him for a while. If Nikosi fails to toe the starting line that leaves John Donaldson of Grace Kennedy and Mark. Thomas of RBL to settle old scores when they step on the undulating terrain of the golf course. To add some more potential power to the already explosive mix let’s introduce Mr. Clifford Bogle of Bank of Jamaica and you’ll have some hard core running.
Central Bank debutante Akeem Simon may enjoy the terrain at Sevilla as we saw on Chancellor Hill where he ran his best race of the Urban Challenge. The young RBTT duo of John Castagne and Anthony Cape debutantes as well who showed early promise in the Urban Challenge would get their opportunity to shine on Sunday and position themselves among the fittest and fastest in the financial services sector. This seems to be the perfect setting for the stage of the explosion of stamina and speed on the Sevilla golf course.
The CariFin dance off is a major contributor to the Xplosion of Fun, Fitness and Friendship to be staged on Sunday. The Dance Off is in its 4th year and always managed to pique the crowd’s interest at the right time taking them into a very festive mood. It’s preparing them for the final blast of Xplosion from the young and energetic females in the Ms. CariFin contest.
The Ms. CariFin is the final lift off to blast off into space as some of the fittest; most energetic and enthusiastic young ladies of the sector take center stage to vie for the right to wear the crown of Ms. CariFin for 2011.
To be the representative of Fun, Fitness and Friendship the young ladies will have to participate in one of the cross country events, do a 3-5 minutes routine, do a question and answer segment and lead her team in the judging of the Best Tent competition.
