Two new times were establish in CariFin One Lap Savannah, Nikosi Mc Leish 12.43 and Esla .

Nikosi Mc LeishNikosi Mc Leish of RBTT Bank takes the CariFin One Lap in 12.43 a faster clip than his 13.13 of 2009. Esla Anthony first time winning any CariFin events breasted the tape ahead of all the females in an impressive 17.46 bettering the female winning time of 18.58 of 2009.

The CariFin (Caribbean Financial Institutions) One Lap Savannah took place on Wednesday April 21, 2010 at 5.15 p.m. This event started opposite TGIF and made one lap of the 2.25 mile Queen’s Park Savannah. This is an Inter-financial series of fitness events designed to promote health and fitness and build camaraderie and team spirit among the financial institutions. It is the first of the four events which comprises the Urban Challenge of the CariFin Games 2010. The Urban Challenge includes 4 running events and the Aerobics Burnout. Cricket, Football and All Fours is the other stage at Republic Bank Sports facilities at Barataria on May 19, 2010 and the penultimate event is the cross country and Family Day at Sevilla Golf Course – Couva and this is the 19th Edition on Sunday June 06, 2010.

The One Lap Savannah started at 5.15 p.m. with over 400 participants toeing the starting line. The race was split into running and walking categories with the walking event starting 5 minutes after.

The first runner Nikosi Mc Leish of RBTT Bank completed the 21/4 mile One Lap Savannah distance in 12 minutes 43 seconds making him t

he winner of this event for 3 years straight with this being his fastest attempt. He was please with his performance but said, “This is the last year for me in the Urban Challenge and next year I will just run cross country, I want to give someone else the opportunity to be motivated to pursue distance running in Trinidad.”
Ian Gibbs of GHL out-sprinted John Donaldson of GRACE KENNEDY to take 2nd place in 14.13, John managed 14.15 hold on to 3rd spot.

In the female category Esla Anthony triumph with 17.46 and excitedly said, “I was surprise, I didn’t expect to come first, but the competition was not as stiff as I expected.”

In 2nd place was new comer from RBTT Bank Salisha Julien who have been groomed over the last year as a deb

utante for this competition did 18.19. Last year’s winner Crystalann Awai of GHL who did 18.29 which was a bit faster than her 2009 time – (but didn’t look that race fit) was only able to muster 3rd place.

In the walking category Hollis Granville of Team Guardian walked away with 1st place doing the 2.25 miles distance in 24.02.  Hazel Tywang-Maharaj of RBTT Bank won this event for another time in 25.53.

The next event is the Green Mile at the Sand Track on Wednesday April 28, 2010 at 5.00 p.m.
